After their harrowing journey and daring rescue, The Mercenaries arrived in Phandalin, greeted by wary eyes and curious whispers. The town, though small, bore signs of tension—broken fences, hushed conversations, and lingering fear.

Rewards and Realisations

The party collected their reward for safely escorting Sildar Hallwinter and completing their job. Yet, their moment of triumph was tempered by unease. Sildar spoke of Gundren Rockseeker’s capture and the growing threat posed by the Redbrands, a gang of thugs terrorising the town.

Their first task was to meet with Harbin Wester, the town’s mayor, whose pompous demeanour quickly grated on the group. While no harsh words were exchanged, it was clear that Nyx harboured a particular dislike for the self-important official. Weeka kept negotiations civil, but the group left their audience with Harbin Wester feeling no closer to true allies within Phandalin.

Exploring the Town

Seeking answers and supplies, the party explored the town. They visited key locations, including the Stonehill Inn, where they gathered rumours about the Redbrands, and the Lionshield Coster, where they restocked provisions and learned of stolen shipments.

Through quiet observation and subtle questioning, they confirmed The Sleeping Giant taproom as a Redbrand hangout. Bolstered by this lead, they prepared for confrontation.

Battle at the Sleeping Giant

Approaching the taproom, the band was met with jeers and insults from the thugs loitering outside. Nyx, still fuming from her encounter with Harbin Wester, was the first to speak, her sharp tongue igniting the tension.

The fight erupted quickly. Riteus charged, his massive frame sending thugs sprawling. Weeka fired eldritch blasts, striking from cover, while Kon deployed traps and gadgets that disoriented their foes. Snezze weaved through the chaos, his interpretative dance proving both distracting and deadly.

Despite their strength, the Redbrands were overwhelmed. The few survivors fled, leaving The Sleeping Giant eerily quiet.

Aftermath

The victory sent a message, but it also made the band targets. With newfound resolve and enemies lurking in the shadows, the group returned to the Stonehill Inn to regroup, knowing the battle for Phandalin had only begun.
